The President of the Miss World Organization,
Julia Morley, coined the motto "Beauty With
A Purpose" and over the past twenty-five
years, more than $400 million USD has been raised
for
children's charities across the globe, helping hundreds
of thousands of those in need. MISS WORLD CANADA
and MWC Productions are committed
to this principle, and as a continuance of this mandate,
to raise funds and awareness by associations with organizations
that benefit children; Miss World Canada’s Charity of
Choice is SOS Children’s Villages Canada. This year's
funds will be designated to a new All Canadian Village
that is being built in Ondangwa, Namibia in Southern Africa.
SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest orphan-focused
charities, caring for orphaned and abandoned children
in 132 countries. SOS Children's Villages provides long-term
care for over 60,000 children and youth worldwide. In
addition, more than 650,000 vulnerable children and their
parents are supported with educational, social and medical
services. SOS Children’s Villages also operates emergency
and long-term relief programs around the world in times
of war, crisis and natural disaster, www.soschildrensvillages.ca.
The MISS WORLD CANADA "Beauty With
A Purpose" Award was presented for the first time
in 2005 and is now an exciting and innovative part of
the contest. As part of MWC’s commitment to the principle
of Beauty With A Purpose, the contestants
have fundraised for the Canadian Cancer Society, the Rock
Sold Foundation, and The Hospital for Sick Children.

the buildings are up – but there is still a lot of fundraising
to be done as SOS Villages is striving to raise another
$500,000 of the $1 million needed for the 3 year operating
costs. The children are expected to be moved in January
2009 !
